Tarangire National Park

Tanzania Northern Safari Circuit

About Tarangire National Park

Tanzania is home to Tarangire National Park, a hidden gem on the northern safari circuit known for its elephant herds, iconic baobab trees, and seasonal wildlife migrations. Located about 120 km (75 miles) southwest of Arusha, the park covers approximately 2,850 square kilometers and is named after the Tarangire River, the primary water source that attracts wildlife throughout the year.

The park lies at an altitude of around 900–1,200 meters and offers a classic African landscape of open savannah, acacia woodlands, and scattered baobab trees. During the dry season, Tarangire becomes one of the best places in Tanzania to see large concentrations of animals, as thousands migrate into the park in search of water. Visitors can expect to encounter elephants in large family groups, along with lions, leopards, cheetahs, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, and an impressive variety of bird species over 500 recorded.

Tarangire is often less crowded than nearby parks like Serengeti National Park, offering a more relaxed and intimate safari experience. It is commonly combined with Ngorongoro Crater and Lake Manyara National Park for a complete northern Tanzania safari.
